Burda Style For people who sew

Sometimes it's hard to find the right colour ribbing when coming to finish off a garment made of jersey. This is a method for finishing neck edges without using a facing or purchased ribbing and uses a twin needle.

Technique Materials

Knitted jersey fabrics of fine to medium weight.

  I made the cowl dress in patterns recently, and used this technique for finishing my arm holes. It was amazingly easy, and I can’t believe how professional it looked. I used a single needle, moved it off center and used the edge of the fabric to keep it straight. I can’t wait to show my seamstress friends- They’ll be so impressed!

  Looks great, I need to try it. The only doubt I have is if the edge would be too thick considering that there are 4 layers of fabric. Probably works well with thin jersey.

  I’ve recently discovered sewing with jersey, after years of avoiding it – fear of streatchiness….

  …After making the cheeky panties (thanks to EmilyKate for the great pattern http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/cheeky-panties) with a finish that I and the recipient loved I am ready to make many more, and larger :) , jersey items…..and this will most definitely up-level the quality of the finish …
