This was my first clothing project ever since I started up my sewing machine. Perhaps it was a bit too ambitious. The pattern is from Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross—the kimono looked so comfy and stylish that I just had to try to make it.
It turned out that the pattern was WAY too big for me, and I had to kind of hack it down to size, then add a zipper. The proportions from the top to the waist are a little wonky now, but I think it still works. Just don’t look too closely at any seams…luckily the obi hides a lot!
A turquoise/blue linen for the dress, and a beautiful white with off-white Japanese cranes on it if you look closely.

I think this looks great! and I also think it is fine if your clothes aren’t finished like factory made things. That’s what makes them special, gives them character, and adds your own special “couture” touch (as I like to believe!)
great job!
