Description

For Gen Con Indy, I made a green fantasy-style dress and black cloak to wear around the convention. I used McCall’s pattern M5499 to make the dress, and the cloak was made using my sewing teacher’s own pattern. I used forest green crepe-back satin for the majority of the dress and the belt. The upper part of the sleeves of the dress were layered with a novelty organza in the same color as the dress that sparkled with tiny rhinestones. The dress and belt were trimmed with a black and gold flat trim. Instead of eyelets, I sewed buttonholes down the back of the dress and used black satin ribbon to lace it up. The hooded cloak was made from black gabardine and lined with purple lining material. The clasp was made by connecting two dragon pendants by jump rings to a jewelry toggle clasp. I as very happy with the resulting costume.
