Description
What are you wearing for New Year’s Eve? If you haven’t decided yet, this dress is just in time! Perfectly simple and sexy, this dress is sure to please, as it can be worn many ways. Wear over tights, slacks, or jeans, and wear the lovely drape either hanging loose, or up over your shoulder(s). The hem is easily lengthened for more coverage if you like.

I’m 5ft2 and have a 34D bust… Dress looks fine on me. I Love it, I love the simplicity behind it, I dont understand why people are complaining about something that’s too simple. If it’s easy to make then voila, you have it ready for the evening!

While I agree that I don’t love how it looks on this model, I think it is a gorgeous dress, though the pattern, for $4, is a little excessive. I’ve pretty much figured out how to make it, even though I’m a beginner, and I’m about to attempt it. I’d post a how-to for this dress without the pattern, but I feel as if that might be slighting BurdaStyle after all they’ve done for us. If anyone needs help making it without a pattern though, I’d be happy to offer what I can. Off to sew…I’ll post it under Creations when I’m done!

Burdastylers, you’re spoiled! I think this pattern looks good on the model, might not look good on me, but so what, there are 52 more coming up! And I actually don’t find it tacky, and I think you could wear it up to a size C with a good strapless bra. I might buy it eventually. Thank you BurdaStyle.

I don’t think it’s fair to criticize this pattern just because it suits a certain body type. We have members with all kind of bodies and we have all kind patterns – some patterns flatter a more female figure and others a more boyish figure, nothing wrong with that.
As someone who often has problems because the patterns need more bust than I have to offer, I am very thankful for patterns that flatter a smaller bust.
As to the pattern, personally I wouldn’t wear it because it can’t be worn with a bra and has no bust support whatever. And in my experience straps won’t solve the problem, this kind of pattern just doesn’t look good with a bra. But like others, I like the inspiration this pattern offers.

I personally love this dress! I have a couple (store-bought) dresses that are very similar. I always wanted to play aroud with their basic shape, but couldn’t find any inspiration! I love the detail of the tucking at the bottom of the dress, and the sash is killer! I wont be buying this pattern, as I have the dresses to copy from already, but I appreciate the awakening of my muse! Keep up the great work Burdastyle team!

I would never wear this dress, sorry it’s just too outrageous. It’s one of those look at my breasts. I prefer more classy type dress. Leave something to the imagination. Conservative I suppose.

Hi Everybody! Thank you SO MUCH for all your comments, critics, opinions!
First of I wanted to say that there are many body types, taste buds and opinions out there and it is almost impossible to always please everybody. Nevertheless we take your opinion very seriously and are very happy to get a lot of feedback.
We brought this dress out in this season because it is a winter cocktail dress. The idea is that when cold on your new years or holiday party, you can wrap the sash around your shoulder. We thought that this was a very neat idea, especially since we all at BurdaStyle are always extremely cold in the office.
I myself love the dress, however I would have a hard time wearing it as well without a bra. I still am planning on making it adding some straps covering the bra. My point is, there are many solutions to most patterns and there is always the next one coming up!
Have a wonderful holiday and a very happy new year! We can’t wait to share what new we have in store for you!

I like the dress even though I would not wear such style.It gives me some ideas which I’m going to use.And I think there is no such thing as the PERFECT DRESS for everybody.We are all unique we are all different.BurdaStyle thank you very much for the ideas and inspirations that you are giving to all of us.Merry Christmas!!!

I have a very large breast measurement(But no hips or belly), and there is no way that this can be changed to suit my breasts without making it look like a sack, and the rest of me as big as my breasts – but on the other hand, my 13 year old daughter has a nice B – C cup size and would look lovely in this (I asked her opinion, and she liked it). I woldn’t download it for a cost.
Oh, and it’s summer here – Burda is for all. The last thing i want to see is heavy material when it’s going to be around the 28C mark today. (70-80F)

Clever sculptural quality and perfect for the /designer/maker/model. Would be silly and inappropriate on what I imagine to be the general BurdaStyle following. It is inspirational and encouraging to see what others create….but this would be a frightening thing if I would make or wear this.

I agree with fraufrohlich, and am glad I can take inspiration from it. I can see modifying it so the pattern suits my ample person, but agree that it will teach intermediate seamstresses a fair amount of construction techniques.
My beef is with the photography. Yes I like to see the dress worn, and yes, the tatoos are interesting, but at first glance, I thought the arm tat was part of the dress somehow. The background, especially with a complex silhouette like this one, is distracting. The necklace is surely not an asset, and with the possibilities of the neckline, it detracts from the dress itself.

I think this is a really cute dress/top. On her. I have a rather full bust and I don’t think the bodice would flatter me, it would, as a previous post said, make my breasts look like stufffed sausages. Also, it’s a little bare for this time of year in Pennsylvania. It has inspired me though. If I take the time and come up with a variation, I’ll have it posted in the Sewing Mamas website/forum.

Wow, this is the type of dress that I love….practical, casual-to-dressed-up in minutes, interesting. Bravo! I really like these “infinity” type garments, they’re very intriguing.
I have to disagree with some of the negative comments regarding what body-style this suits…..I’ve seen this dress style worn on very curvaceous women, and they looked STUNNING. I think it’s even nicer on a curvy body. But I understand it might not be everyone’s style, that’s fair.

I agree with some members, a think this is inspiring but isn’t breathtaking. In the end, me as a member i take or sew what flatters me, maybe this design will flatter other girl with a different body type from mine. Although i think that $4.00 is very little for all the work that Burdastyle Team does, Nuiwida makes a good point. Anyways, burdastyle can´t please ALL of us. Keep the good working Burdastyle Team! i love the design of this dress, but am very confused about why you have put it out now. it looks like a summer dress to me! when there is 3 feet of snow outside, it would be impossible for me to wear it! i will probably make this dress for the summer though. however, it is SO simple that buying the pattern and printing it out would be a waste of time, money, and paper. i am inspired by the original design, burdastyle team, but unfortunately i am disappointed by your decision to charge for it. merry christmas and happy holidays to all!

Maybe you’re right. It sure doesn’t flatter this model, but I doubt this dress would fit someone with bigger breasts. They don’t have any place to ‘fit’ in in this pattern. Anybody can make a dress out of elastic fabric, but most people look like a stuffed sausage if you just use rectangles. sorry to say.

well, i think beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so… flattering for skinny or curvy-everybody must decide for him/herself.
it is an ispiration for me, and for someone else a great pattern to download. not everyone can see (even if it is really simple) how the pattern is made by just looking at the clothing. i know i can do it, but there are some who just have no clue. and those are willing to pay and glad to find a cool pattern.
so…i like the pattern, and i know i will make one a bit different, 2 pieces hanging down (left and right), same colour and a completely different skirt, or maybe even just a top, or both? i will make different straps. so….it can be an ispiration or the perfect piece. this is what this site is for, its for everyone and everyone is different.
