I just come to the site and want to buy it today .Suprise!the price was increased.Wow, I guess this is the only pattern that Burda style sell more than 100 in a short time since they start to charge. That’s probably why they increase the price from $2 to $4. But I think I should let Burda’s stuff know because it’s $2 that’s why we buy it. But now , I don’t think I will. It’s not only because of the money, it’s just the way you people do things make me uncomfortable .

my opinion is that if you can get away with it then who cares if you wear leggings as pants. some ppl just shouldn’t even bother attempting it. at first i hated seeing people wear them as pants but then i got lazy and they are so comfy and now i hate pants. i hardly ever wear pants. but i do think the top needs to be long but it doesnt HAVE to cover the crotch. just make sure theres no camel toe. i think if your thighs rub when you walk you should cover to the length of where they stop touching.

I see leggings as pants, but I would cover with a tunic, pair of shorts if playing sports, or other clothing. I am over 30 also but slim/skinny build.

I’m thinking getting a pair together for Halloween! Bad Girl Sandra Dee (the black outfit) from Grease? Modern day celebutante? Miley, Hannah, Kardashian, Lindsey? Dead or alive?!

I love the leggings, I us a overlock with woolly nylon thread in the lower looper and that way I donot have to worry about small or larger zig zag stitiches. Any knit works great.

Just made them tonight and they look great! Really simple pattern and great fit. I used the medium size, but cut off a little extra from the top, as it was coming way too high in the waist for me.

I have a serger, but I preferred to use a small zigzag stitch on the fabric I had 2.0 width, 2.5 length, slightly stretching when stitching. Works like a charm!

I think these leggings were probably shown worn with the tank T so you could see the waist and how they fit at the seat and crotch, not as a style suggestion – at least I hope thats why! :p Great

Leggings are super easy to make, like hunnykunfan said, without the use of a pattern, its simple enough to make your own and also to extend or shorten them to fit long or shorter legs.

I actually have some bronze lycra so think I may run a pair up when I get the chance.

Hello ladies! I’m pretty new here, but decided to jump in on the leggings as pants post. IMHO (ok, not so humble… ) I think major NO. Although, I think they look amazing with a tunic. My rule is finger tip length with the shirt. Then again, I’m 31 and think a little longer looks a little better. I’m a small person (5’2" and petite, 103#) but skinny or not, leggings as pants are just not flattering.
I’m sure there’s that magnificent woman (singular) out there that can rock them hard, but sadly it’s more than likely not us or anyone that we know. Unless you also come from an alternate reality. ; )
Also, I have a Bernina 1500 (dinosaur that runs well) I heard it doesn’t have a stretch stitch. Are large zig zags not the same as a stretch? Please help. I’ve never had to sew stretchy stuff on this machine before.
    Thank you!!!!!!

I’ve always used a small zigzag as a stretch stitch. short length & width keeps the width narrow so it looks good & has give.

Even though I have the stretch option on my Bernina, I usually just use a straight stitch and give a bit of a tug while I’m sewing stretch fabrics. I have a leggings pattern from McCalls that is almost identical to this one and the 2 pairs I have made have both held up great. If you don’t like tugging at the material while you sew, you should use zig-zag as another alternative.

IMHO, leggings should be worn with a tunic or dress that comes down to at least the curve of the seat. Otherwise they look ridiculous, especially in shiny fabric. This pattern is a basic, though, if you don’t already have one.

I completely agree about the shiny leggings! I’m glad they didn’t cover them up with a tunic or dress though, because it’s nice to see how the top half of the leggings fit.

Great, I wear leggings all the time and by making them myself I can finally make them long enough (I’m 6’2’’).

One question though, the size come in S, M and L. What does and L stand for? I’m not the thinnest girl around, often need size 44 or 46, so I wonder whether I could get my butt to fit in an L? Or do I need to find another pattern in the end?

I’d say: ok with a big top/shirt/tunic and boots or really nice shoes. Not ok with a little skimpy top and loads of bum showing… too naked for me, but then I’m getting old ;-)!

NOT OK in my opinion! its one of my fashion pet peeves ;) i think probably about 1% of the female population could pull off looking good in leggings as pants, and I am not saying that 99% of us have inferior body types, its just that spandex is, well, spandex!…I think as long as something (long shirt, tunic) covers the bottom of the butt then its fine and they can look really cute …I am also still waiting for skinny jeans to go out of style, not quite as bad as leggings, (at least there is some structure in the bum) but again, they create a shape that just doesnt flatter most body types…

A great pattern to have in ones arsenal….. I should know, I already have one! :-)
I’ve made 2 pair so far and I’m sure I will make more this fall. These are super easy to make.
I recommend using a jersy knit, since my second pair was a double knit and it didn’t have as much stretch. I sewed up both pairs on my regular machine with a simple stretch stitch and they turned out fine.

you can try with a wide zig zag, but you’ll always get better results with an overlocker..

overlock is ideal… but regular machine works fine, with zigzag stitch or any stretch stitch (i have a brother machine and is has an “overlock imitation” stitch, is very stretchy. you should try with scrap fabric the different stitches)
