We had 60+ amazing entries in this competition and some hard decisions to make.
The skirts were scrutinized by the team and then sent on to Wenlan Chia, Founder and Designer of Twinkle by Wenlan, who made the tough final decision.
Better hurry up! Tomorrow is the last day to submit your skirt variation to us at submissions (at) burdastyle.com and be entered to win:
Grand Prize- Pfaff sewing machine, retail value ($1000), Twinkle by Wenlan sewing fabric, sewing accessories by Coats & Clark, Whish Body Products, and an autographed copy of Twinkle Sews…
Congratulations to Damiana_Designs! Her Scaly Scarf Dress blew away the judges and has won her a brand new activa 210 sewing machine from BERNINA! We would also like to congratulate our runners up: Scarf Dress Ruffled by Pltnmblondelife and Scarf Dress by javiertellez.
As you may have noticed, the voting on several of the entries became unethically compromised by a few of the contestants; and because of this we were forced to choose the winner a different way. Therefore, an esteemed panel of judges from BERNINA sifted through all of the entries, narrowed it down to the top five contestants, and chose the grand prize winner!
Thank you, to everyone, for all of your amazing entries and we look forward to seeing more of your creative work in the future!
Happy Sewing!

By participating in the “Project Runway”-type design challenge at Kent State University, one lucky winner has won the opportunity to have a creation of their choice made into a BurdaStyle pattern sponsored by Coats & Clark.
Meet Theresa Rietschlin, an Ohio native and Kent State University student. Most of Theresa’s days are spent drawing and sewing when she is not working for her father’s construction company. Like many of our own stories, Theresa owes her gratitude to her mother, someone who has not only taught her the ABC’s of sewing, but who has encouraged her to cultivate her artistic vision.
How has sewing affected Theresa’s life? “Sewing has been a way for me to express my creativity. Although the process to get the final garment is tedious, the final product is worth every second. To realize that one can create a garment from a piece of fabric is truly wonderful. And of course, without sewing I would not be going to school for fashion design”.
We will be working with Theresa over the next few weeks to create a winning look from which the pattern will be offered to everyone later this year! Congratulations Theresa!
