Are you dressing up for Halloween this year? If you’re stuck on a costume idea you should take a look through Alexander McQueen’s archives to be fully inspired! His runway looks are fit for the likes of Blade Runner or a Philip K. Dick novel, they are truly extraordinary! When I was little, I always went as a specific character or theme: Debbie Gibson, Fortune Teller, Punk- but as I get older, I find it more exciting to just make something extravagant (a la McQueen) and have a ball. We have some great ideas on BurdaStyle, like our Static Cling

costume, a user’s impressive likeness of Sally from A Nightmare Before Christmas, smile with Alden’s amazing creations, 5 hoop-skirt variations as Belle’s of the Ball, even Bjork’s famous Swan dress by McQueen himself.

Are you making your own costume this year? What are you going to be? Do you think it’s important to “be” a specific thing or character, or do you like to just dress up and be someone else for a night? What was your best costume ever?

I’m too broke this year to pull together my she-ra costume… but I love the idea of having an extravagent McQueen-esque get-up to wear. Maybe something knitted a la Rodarte. Maybe next year!

Aaaaah! I watched Bram Stoker’s Dracula last night for the first time in forever and I think there are some great sartorial/costume ideas there…. very steampunk/goth/vampire. I think Sadie Frost’s all white vampire bride Lucy and Tom Waits as Renfield with the striped straight jacket would be great his & hers costumes.

We are going to be rather sedate and are going to a" Grand Masked Ball" — I made my mask ( like those Venetian ones ? ) Not dressing up as such – just a long black evening dress and the black and gold mask. husband in formal wear and a cat’s mask ( though he has a devil’s mask to change into later in the evening )

We are talking about going as Lucy and Charlie Brown, but it might not happen. I’ve made several Halloween costumes, but I think the best was 2 years ago, I went as Monica Lewinksy. I had the perfect blue dress and all the appropriate accessories!

Recently my boyfriend found out he is moving so is on a very tight budget, with no room for a costume. Yet last night we decided he should use one of the caps I make for my Etsy shop and he will go as a yard gnome! I am still going as Bjork, but would really love to be a matching gnome with him…
